This was the first game of the year for Boston but the 5th game of the year for Indy who had finished 2nd in a 4 team tourney the previous weekend. Boston had made some changes on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and this would be the first test of the season. All game long, the teams would have an eye to the sky with thunderstorms in the forecast. Boston would start of the season with back-to-back strike-outs by Dino Vasile and Shayne Cantan and after two innings Boston was already down 9-2 and the Renegades had 5 strike outs in 8 at-bats. The Indy Thunder’s bats were booming on a wet field and the Lewis brothers plated three of Indy’s five first inning runs. The New Boston defense struggled as it only made 4 stops in the first 13 balls put into play as every position on the field struggled. Indy hit the ball very well and found themselves up 12-5 before the teams were pulled off the field in the 5th inning due to Tornado warnings. After a 90 minute delay, the Thunder finished off Boston by scoring three insurance runs in the 5th. Five of the six starters for Indy would plate atleast 2 runs each. Ron Brown would plate three runs on his way to being named the 2nd best hitter of the tournament (hitting .647). With 2 outs in the 6th inning, Rookie Aqil Sajjad would give the Renegades something to cheer about as he became the first Renegade in team history to score a run in his first at-bat. Boston’s pitcher Ron Cochran would whiff 42% of the hitters for his 2nd worst start of his career. The MVP of the game would be Jerry Windell who scored four times and made a stop on defense for the Thunder. The win marked the 3rd straight victory Indy has had over Boston.

Both teams came into this game after losing by large margins to their previous opponent. This would be the Fighting Lions second game of their exsistence as 5 of their 6 starters had no prior NBBA experience. Boston may have taken them too lightly as their defensive problems from the previous game did not seem to be solved. The Fighting Lions scored on every ball they put into play in the first two innings as they clung to their first lead ever 3-2 over Boston. The Boston defense would wake up and the fighting Lions would only score on 2 of their next 8 balls they put in play the remainder of the game. Their 12 strike outs would not put enough pressure on the Boston defense. The Lions Kept this game close with some good defense up the middle of the field as the Renegades got a dose of rookie Evan Van Duyne who made 5 stops on his way to being named to the all defense team with 16 stops in the tournament. Steve Guerra also pitched in 3 stops for the Fighting Lions. Thankfully for the Renegades, Shayne Cantan snapped out of his funk (the first Renegade ever to strike out 5 times in a game) and he plated three runs to lead the Renegade charge with runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. He would be the MVP of this game.

Boston entered this game with a 6 game losing streak to the Kansas All-Stars, the longest losing streak in team history. Kansas looked ripe for the taking as they had no subs and two of their players had leg injuries limiting their mobility. The story of this game was the Kansas defense and some poor base running by the Renegades. For the first time this season, Boston led off the game with 4 balls in play but could only manage one run as three different All-Stars made stops. The first 4 batters for Kansas would plate runs to give Kansas a 4-1 lead after one frame. In the 2nd, Boston would tie it up as Shayne Cantan, JJ Ward and Sengil Inkiala plated runs. But with 2 outs in the bottom of the second Kansas would get hot and score 4 more consecutive runs to give them an 8-4 lead. Boston scratched back in the 3rd as Dino Vasile and Shayne Cantan scored to pull within 2 runs. In the 3rd frame Steve Stambaugh would lead off with a run but Woodard would ground out to Shayne Cantan, Dobbs would strike out and Jordy Stringer would ground out to Zuccarello and the score was just 9-6. Boston could feel the mojo shifting as both Woodard and Stringer could barely get down the line. Down 11-6 with 2 outs in the bottom of the fourth the game was postponed due to lightning. It was decided the game would be restarted at 7:00am on Sunday morning. Boston would find out this game would be meaningful. Win the game and play for the championship on Sunday. Lose by 6 or more runs and play for last place. Lose by less than 6 runs and play for 5th place. The game restarted on Sunday and Kansas put Boston away with their 5/6 hitters, Dobbs and Stringer leading off with hits. Boston would lose the game and a tie breaker scenario (due to Indy getting upset by Minnesota for the Fighting Lion’s first franchise win) and go to the Toilet bowl to play for last place. Stambaugh would be named the offensive MVP of the tourney (.685) and make the all-defensive team (14 stops). Doug Biggins would make the offensive team (.632). Stambaugh would be the MVP of this game with 3 runs and 5 defensive stops.

Cleveland had lost all of their games the previous day to Chicago (11-9), Colorado (14-3) and Wichita (3-0). They had a small roster and had been banged up. Coach Jeff Dell would be forced into action despite major knee injuries and he would score the first run of the game for Cleveland to stake them to a 1-0 lead. Shayne Cantan would tie it up in the first as Cleveland made three defensive stops on the Boston offense. In the second inning, Vasile and Cantan would go back to back to give the Renegades a 3-1 lead. Both teams would put the ball into play often and both teams played some good defense. Boston would open things up in the 5th inning as Vasile, Shayne Cantan and Joey Buizon would plate runs to give Boston some insurance and a 4 run lead heading into the last frame. In the 6th Justen Cantan entered the game and made 3 stops on the right side of the field to clinch the win and the toilet bowl. Boston had its 2nd best ever game in team history in putting balls into play as they put 91% of their at bats into play. The Scrappers were helped by Brian Peebles who made 9 of the 13 stops for Cleveland on his way to winning the defensive MVP of the tournament with 26 stops. Cleveland put 83% of their at bats into play which was the most active of any team Boston faced in the tournament. Five different Boston defenders would make stops led by Darren Black (6) who set a career milestone by recording his team leading 300th put-out in team history. Shayne Cantan would be the MVP of the game with his 4 run performance (the 3rd time he has done this in his short career). He would finish the tournament with 10 hits in his 11 at-bats after starting 0 for 5 with 5 strike outs.

The New Jersey Lightning would enter this game as a first year team with a two game winning steak and a lot of confidence. Captain, Sherlock Washington would start the game off with a bang and put the Lightning ahead. The Renegades continued their slow start as they went down 1-2-3 as Sherlock Washington did it on defense as well, making two stops in the second line of the New Jersey defense off the bats of Dino Vasile and Larry Haile. In the second inning, New Jersey’s Kevin Szott would take a hard fall while running down the baseline and would eventually have to leave the game in an ambulance with a suspected dislocated shoulder. At this point the field was deemed unsafe to play on and a change would be made for the rest of the day on this field. Only 3rd base would be in use for the remainder of the day. This certainly changed the complexity of the game as a base runner know knew what base they would be running toward. Washington would be the first batter up after the injury and he would plate his 2nd run of the game to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Boston would fight back as pinch hitter Joe Quintanilla would score in the 2nd and Shayne Cantan, Larry Haile and Justen Cantan would plate runs in the 3rd to give Boston a 4-2 lead.New Jersey would open it up in the 4th inning as they would score two runs on poor defensive play by the Renegades and score a pair of run on good hits as Washington scored his 3rd run of the game. New Jersey would tack on insurance runs as they outscore Boston 9-2 in the final three frames of the game. In the end, New Jersey played better defense than Boston stopping 57% of the balls hit into play (vs 45% for Boston) and strike out less. Sherlock Washington was the MVP of this game with a five for five performance at the plate and 4 stops on defense.

After the loss to New Jersey, The Renegades huddled up and regrouped. They knew they played a poor game and they knew they needed to wake up. It started shaky as lead off hitter Ted Fass would plate a run and Jeff Stevens would give LongIsland a 2 run lead. Then it happened. The bats woke up. Dino Vasile led off with a long fly ball over the heads of everyone down the right field line. Shayne Cantan hit a line drive to left center, Larry Haile hit a grounder up the middle, Joey Buizon hit a line drive to Right field and Justen Cantan hit a line drive down the third baseline. Boston was up 5-2 and 4 of the 5 hits were hit hard. Boston would plate another 5 runs in the 2nd inning as Larry Haile would score a pair of runs, Vasile, Buizon and Ward would also score. The route was on. Never before in the history of this rivalry had Boston held such a commanding lead. It was not just the bats as Long Island hit the ball hard and often. Dino Vasile was the story on defense. In just his second start up the middle, he made 5 huge stops. The Renegades had not had 5 stops out of this position in the whole season up till this point. They were all big hits and took the wind out of Long Island’s sails. In the 4th inning you knew the game was going Boston’s way when Nick Esposito hit a hard ground ball up the middle of the field that ricocheted off Justen Cantan about 30 feet to the first baseman, Darren Black who made the stop. This was the first game since 2007 the the leading defensive player was not one of the shorty players. In this game, Boston would hit .516 for their 4th best batting average in team history and the 8 run differential would be the 4th largest in team history. Most importantly for Boston, this was a team victory as four different Renegades scored 3 runs, 6 different players made stops on defense and Boston had proven it could wake up after a dismal start.

Boston could still win the Long Island Classic if they beat the Wolfpack by a large margin and got help from the Long Island Bombers to win a game against the Lightning. The tie breaker was run differential and the Boston offense would be challenged. Boston would get two outs before scoring on 4 straight runs by Larry Haile, JJ Ward, Justen Cantan and Evan Silver to lead off the game. The Wolfpack would look good at the plate early as they put 4 of their first 5 at bats into play with run scoring hits by Scott Hogwood and Mike Patterson. This would be Hogwood’s first ever run in a game. In fact this pair would also connect for runs in the second frame but they would find themselves down 7-4. It was all Renegades from here out as the Wolfpack would strike out 7 times in their last 13 at-bats with 5 of those balls hit into play were weakly hit. Boston came close to a 12 run rule in the 5th inning after putting up crooked numbers in the first 5 frames of the game. The MVP of this game would be shared by the Cantan brothers as Shayne would pace the offense with 4 runs and his older brother would plate 2 runs and make stops on 4 of the 5 balls hit his way in this contest. Long Island would go on to beat New Jersey and the Renegades would win the Long Island Classic for the 3rd year in a row on a tie breaker as three teams finished 2-1.

The Wolfpack played host to the Renegades in the 2nd leg of the Beast of the East in Haddonfield, NJ. As the game started play, the rain started to fall. In fact, it rained the entire game. This made things interesting. Coach Weissman would challenge the Renegades with the “Patterson challenge” before the game started. The goal was to shut down Mike Patterson who had hit very well and supplied most of the Wolfpack offense against Boston in the past. Shut down Patterson and the players could make up Wednesday’s practice plan. If Patterson scored the team would do a lot of running. Patterson led the game off with a strike out but with 2 outs Matt Shields would score on a short ball into the right side of the field to give the wolf pack a lead in the first. The Hawaiians would score a pair of runs in the 1st inning and then in the second inning Larry Haile and Shayne Cantan would plate another pair to give Boston a lead that they would hold for the rest of the game.Boston would put 17 of their 20 balls into play and many of them were hit solid. The wet slow grass combined with great defense by the entire Wolfpack team slowed down the Boston Offense. The sloppy field conditions also caused some problems on the base paths for Boston as they lost a few runs due to poor base running. For the Wolfpack, the story was strike outs. Every hitter in their line up struck out 3 times as they only put 3 balls into play. The scary moment of the game came in the 3rd inning when Scott Hogwood swung his bat and missed but the bat slipped out of his wet hands and landed in foul territory near the Boston bench. In fact, thrown bats were a problem on this day as three hitters lost the grip on their bats. This would eventually postpone the whole tournament. This win would give Boston 3 wins and 1 Loss in the Beast of the East. The players would win the “Patterson challenge” as he would ground out to Darren Black in the 6th inning for the only defensive stop Boston would make all game.

Boston had beaten the Wolfpack twice in 2010 and had a 5 game winning streak against this opponent dating back to 2008. This would be the first home game Boston had had since 2008 and the team was excited to be hosting the first ever Blind Citizens Beep Baseball Championship in Sudbury, Mass. The weather was hot and sticky and the fans started to roll in. Coach Bryan Grillo entered the huddle before the game and spoke to the team about the movie Rudy as the team took the field to a chant of “not in our house”. Boston would make 2 stops in the first inning as Guy Zuccarello and Justen Cantan would put out the 2/3 hitters for the Wolfpack. As they came off the field, Coach Weissman would state…thats one more stop then we made all last game against them! Larry Haile would lead off the game with a line shot into right center to give Boston the lead that they would not relinquish. Fast forward to the 3rd inning and the Wolfpack were down 3-0 and had been stopped on 5 of the hits they had put into play. Matt Shields hit a ball down the first base line that scooted by Zuccarello and he called for help as it rolled beyond 100 feet. Behind him was Melissa Hoyt who was inserted into the game for defense. The ball got by her and she hit the ground and made the play. This was her first defensive stop of her 4 year career. Never before had her teammates seen her smile as wide as she did as she trotted off the field keeping the Renegade lead at 3-0. With 2 outs in the 3rd, the Renegade bats caught fire as Joey Buizon and JJ Ward came off the bench to score run on 3 pitches and on the 4th pitch, Shayne Cantan plated the 3rd run of the inning. Boston would go up 6-0. Scott Hogwood would plate the only run for the Wolfpack in the 5th inning as the Boston Defense was on fire. The Renegades would win game 1 of their home tournament and get confidence that each and every player could contribute to their wins.

This was a game Boston was waiting for. A chance to redeem themselves after New Jersey took it to them in New York. This would be the second game of the day and New Jersey had already faced some drama in their first game against Long Island. In that game, Jersey scored 7 runs in the top of the first inning only to have Long Island score twice in the bottom of the 6th to beat them in a come from behind victory 13-12. New Jersey also lost one of their star players to injury, Paul Daye. Two teams heading in opposite directions as the Renegades were fired up to play. New Jersey won the coin toss but that would be all they would win in this game as the Renegades put up 7 runs in the first inning which marked the 3rd biggest inning in team history. New Jersey would come to the plate and put three balls into play and they would go down 1-2-3. Boston would tack on 3 more runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings and find themselves up 13-0 after three innings which invoked the 12 run rule. This would be only the third time in team history that the Renegades had 12 runned an opponent. The defense went on to the field with the goal to finish what they had started. New Jersey battled as they put 10 of their first 13 balls into play. The Boston Defense would eventually shut out New Jersey (its 4th career shut out) and this would be the best game the defense had ever played as it made stops on all 10 balls the opponent put into play. Offensively, Boston would hit .619 in the game which would be only the 2nd time in team history the team hit over .600 in a game. Boston would be led by Shayne Cantan and Dino Vasile who each notched their 5th career 4 run game.

This game was for everything. Both teams entered the game with identical records of 5-1 in the Beast of the East and 2-0 for the Blind Citizens Beep Baseball Championship. Whoever would win this game would capture both of the crowns. The last time these teams faced off in Boston was 2005 and that memory still burned in many of the Renegades minds as they beat Boston 17-5. For the third time in the day, Boston would put up a crooked number in the first as Larry Haile and Dino Vasile hit bombs into the middle of the field. Again the Boston Defense would play well as Shayne Cantan put out Matt Povugel on a ball hit down the 3rd base line. Justen Cantan would stop Jim Hughes on a ball hit up the middle and Joey Buizon would spark the defense on a stop to deep left field off the bat of Jeff Stevens. In the second inning, Justen Cantan, Haile, Shayne Cantan and Vasile would plate runs for Boston to go up 6-0. Boston was playing loose and confident. Guy Zuccarello would make 2 stops in the bottom frame. In the third Shayne Cantan and Vasile would give Boston an 8-0 lead on a line shot to Center field and a grounder down the first base line. Zuccarello and Vasile would make stops in the Bottom of the third to give Boston 10 consecutive innings where the defense did not allow a run. In the bottom of the 4th inning, rookie Joe Dejesus would score for the first time on a slow roller up the middle of the field. Boston would get a run from one if its rookies as well as Aqil Sajjad would come off the bench to score a run in the 5th inning for his second run of his career. Boston got three insurance runs in the 6th inning from the Cantan Brothers and Sengil Inkiala. Boston would outscore its three opponents on this day 34-4. Shayne Cantan would have his 2nd 4 run game of the day (6th career) while his brother, Justen would make 5 stops to lead the defense. Boston would be crowned the best team on the East Coast with a 6-1 record and a 3-0 record in the first ever Blind Citizens Beep Baseball Championship

Boston entered this game with a 0 win and 7 loss career record against the Kansas All Stars. Kansas was the National Champion in 2007. Despite that pedigree, Boston had more confidence than ever before after winning the Beast of the East and playing Kansas in a close match in June. The game started off well for Boston as John Parker was put out on a hard hit ball by Justen Cantan. Doug Biggins was then also stopped on a hard hit ball when there was a late base call. Even though the runner was out in less then 2 seconds, the batter was awarded a fresh count and proceeded to score. This happened another time in the first inning and Kansas played was pretty much given 5 outs. Thankfully the inning ended on an amazing play bySengil Inkiala who made a stop on a ball hit by Doug Biggins in right field. Inkiala made the play at about 145 as he was backing up on the ball. The ball bounced on one hop over his right shoulder. As it was about to heading over his shoulder, Inkiala caught it in both hands. That was the defensive highlite of the World Series for Boston. Boston would get 3 runs in the bottom of the first from Shayne Cantan, Dino Vasile and Justen Cantan but Kansas would put up 6 more runs in the 2nd and after two innings it was 11-4. Kansas would eventually 12 run Boston in the 5th inning. This would be the only time Boston would be 12 run ruled in 2010. Brett Sanders would score 4 times for Kansas and would finish 5th in the World Series with a .600 Batting Average and Kansas would go on to take 3rd place. Clint Woodard would be named to the all defensive team with 6 stops per game. A tough match up for Boston to start the tournament. The Kansas All-Stars announced they would disband after the series ending their storied franchise.

The Defending World Champs wrote up a line up card with just 3 of their starting hitters from the 2009 Championship season. They started three players who the Renegades had faced with other teams in the 2010 season. Clearly this was not a Dawgs teamtaking the Renegades seriously. Things started off bad for the Renegades as Larry Haile pulled up lame with a leg injury to lead off the game (he would not return). The number two hitter was Shayne Cantan who cried late base as he did not hear a base go off to start the game. This started a 30 minute delay as Boston questioned the umps explanation that a player can not call for a late base once they are beyond 40 feet. After this was cleared up, Dino Vasile scored the first run of the game and then another delay happened. Joe Quintanilla had three late base calls in one at-bat before he finally struck out to end the inning. Elexis Gillete would plate a run for the Dawgs but Mike Finn would be stopped by Sengil Inkiala at first base and Lupe Perez would strike out. Sherlock Washington would stride to the plate and score to give the Dawgs a 2-1 lead. In the 2nd Boston put 5 balls into play and the Cantan brothers each scored to pull ahead 3-2. The Dawgs would plate a pair as they got more production from their bench players as Brian Peebles led off with a run and Lupe Perez scored. Joe Quintanilla would tie it up in the top of the 3rd at 4 a piece. In the bottom frame, the Dawgs bench continued to produce as Peebles and Washington plated their second runs of the games in a 4 run rally. Boston would come back in the 4th inning with 3 runs and 6 balls put into play as the Cantan Brothers and Dino Vasile pulled the Renegades within 1 run for an 8-7 game. The Dawgs coach called a time out to talk to the defense in this inning and in the bottom of the fourth the Dawgs pulled the bench and entered their Championship line-up. They would plate 7 runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Boston made it respectable and this was the first time in 4 match-ups they did not get 12 runned by the Dawgs. Lupe Perez and Sherlock Washing accounted for 8 of the 15 runs scored by the Dawgs. The rest of the Dawgs championship line up went 5 for 15 with just 4 K’s. Lupe Perez would go on to win the Offensive MVP of the World Series with a .684 Average. EricMazariegos would go on to place 2nd on the defensive squad with 6.14 stops per game (Boston helped him out with 7 balls).

Both teams came into this game with an understanding that a win would give them the 3 seed in the double elimination round. The winner would get Colorado and the loser would get Austin. NC had lost 17-2 to Kansas and 17-8 to the Dawgs. The Renegades were reminded that the Pride played them very tough in 2008 in an offensive battle that ended 18-14 infavor of the Renegades. Larry Haile would be ok to play in this game but would be relegated to DH with his injury. The Renegades came out firing as their 2/3/4 hitters all plated runs. North Carolina would send 4 batters to the plate in the 1st inning and 2 of them would strike out. The Renegades had a huge inning in the 2nd as they plated 6 runs. Dino Vasile and Shayne Cantan each scored twice in the inning and Haile and JJ Ward each pitched in one run. This was much like the 2008 game when Boston plated 7 runs in the 2nd inning. Boston would keep the pressure on and would get 4 more runs in the 4th inning to give them a 14-5 lead. At this point, Boston started making subs to get players some experience and rest and all 11 Renegade players on the roster appeared in this win. Boston’s .455 Avg in this game was the 12th best in team history and this was only the 10th time it had scored at least 15 runs in a game. Shayne Cantan would have his 4th 4 run game of the year (7th in his career). JJ Ward and Larry Haile would also have big games. This would be only the third game in Wards career where he plated three runs in a game. This would also mark the first game since 2008 where the Renegades were led on defense by a player who did not play in the shorty position. Dino Vasile paced the defense with 4 stops while playing at the mid field spot out at about 115 feet deep. Boston would only get one stop from their front 2 players in this match-up. For the Pride, Nim Novakovic would be named to the all defenive team with 6 stops per game. Boston would play 3 of the 4 top defenders and 2 of the top 6 hitters in the World Series in the first day of play.

Boston was a 3 seed coming out of the toughest bracket into the double elimination round.Colorado was a 2 seed coming out of the easiest bracket (due to the fact they had a bye and only played 2 games). Colorado easily beat Tyler 15-6 and then lost the 1 seed by losing to Austin 19-18. On paper this match up was the most interesting game of the 1st round of the double elimination brackets. The last two games between these teams was decided by a total of 2 runs. Both of them walk-off victories by the Storm. Boston would start hot. Vasile scored on a pop fly up the middle. Shayne Cantan scored on a grounder down the 3rd baseline. Larry Haile scored on a line shot up the middle to give Boston a 3 run lead. In the bottom of the first, lead-off hitter Ethan Johnston scored on a ball that Shayne Cantan bobbled. Rocky Zamora plated another run and Boston led 3-2 after one frame. The Boston bats would go silent with good Colorado defense. They would send 11 batters to the plate after the 1st 3 hitters scored and all 11 batters would be put out. Demetris Morrow would make 4 stops in this streak while playing the right shorty position. Steve Patton would make 4 stops while playing 3rd base. Ethan Johnston would make 2 stops at the left short position and Orlando Dominguez would make a stop in the deep middle. During this time Sengil Inkiala and JJ Ward would cost the Renegades runs with poor base running. Steve Lyles would plate his second run of the game in the 4th inning on another bobble by the Boston defense and after 4 innings Boston was down 7-4. Life came back in the 5th inning. Joe Quintanilla came off the bench and delivered a line drive into left field to start a Boston rally. Shayne Cantan, Haile and JJ Ward would also score as Boston took an 8-7 lead. That lead was short lived as the Storm scored five runs of their own in the 5th inning highlighted by Demetris Morrow’s pair of runs. Boston made too many mistakes in this game. They cost themselves 3 runs on the bases (Inkiala, Ward, S. Cantan) and bobbled 4 balls in the field. That was the difference in this game. Boston would end up in the losers bracket and the Storm would go on to play Tawian. Colorado would play a very close game against the Home Run losing 19-16.

These two teams had not faced each other in the World Series since 2002 which was before Coach Rob Weissman started working with the program. The Comets had a rough few games before this contest. They were the 2 seed in their bracket losing a game in which Taiwan walked off on them 16-15 (they beat Wichita 20-2 and Lone Star 16-4). On day two, they beat the SW Slammers 20-7 before falling to Austin 19-7. Chicago would start the game off with 3 consecutive runs and then plate 2 more in the second as Giovanni Francese and Warren Richardson would each score twice on their way to the All-Offensive teams in the world Series (Francese would hit .618 and Richardson would hit .659). The only offense for Boston in the first 2 frames came from Shayne Cantan who scored the Renegades 2 runs. Boston would keep this game close all game long trailing by no more than 3 runs till the 5th inning. Boston would go scoreless in the last two frames while having a chance to win this game. The name of this game was team defense on both sides of the ball. For Chicago, Kilari Girtley made 4 stops at the left shorty position off the bats off Ward (1st), Inkiala (2nd), Justen Cantan(4th) and Shayne Cantan (5th). Dave Benney had 3 stops on the right short side (Haile and Vasile (1st), J.Cantan (3rd). Wally Mozdzierz made 3 stops in the mid field spot taking hard hits away from J. Cantan (2nd), S. Cantan (4th) and Quintanilla (5th). Richie Schultz took two deep balls in right field away from Haile (5th) and Ward (6th). Gil Ramos made the other stop for Chicago taking a hit away from J. Cantan for the last out of the game. On the other side of the Ball Boston flashed some leather as well led by the Hawaiian brothers who each made 3 stops. Shayne stopped Schultz and Mozdzierz in the 1st and Barrera in the 6th. Justen stopped Mozdzierz (2nd/4th) and Francese in the 3rd. Dino Vasile had two stops at the mid field spot against Barrera and Mozdzierz in the 5th. Guy Zuccarello stopped Richardson (3rd) and Benney(5th) while Sengil Inkiala made a stop on Dave Benney in the 4th inning and Larry Haile stopped Richie Schultz in the 2nd. In the end 8 different players had more than one out on defense and 11 players made stops in this game. Chicago just had better defense and bigger bats on this day.

The Renegades found themselves in the 9-12 placement bracket again after losing two straight games in the double elimination bracket. The winds would be a factor in this game as it was very hard for the teams to hear the ball on defense. Boston was reminded of their performance in 2009 when they struck out 45% of the time while many players tried to do a little too much against the Tigers. This game would play different from the previous match. It started off good for Tyler as they put their first 6 balls into play but Justen Cantan made 4 stops and the Tigers were scoreless thru the first two frames. On the Renegades side, things started poorly. Three of the first four Renegades whiffed including Shayne Cantan’s first strike out of the World Series (he would eventually strike out just 3 times in 34 at-bats). Then the party started. Joe Quintanilla got the rally started as he plated his first run (of three in the game) and the team rolled 6 consecutive runs off. Tyler would plate 2 of their own in the 3rd to break the ice before Boston would plate another 6 runs in the 3rd inning. The highlite of this inning was from Joey Duggan. Duggan would hit a line drive up the middle of the field and score his first run by hitting third base. It was a big weight lifted off his shoulders as he had struggled with base running for the whole season. Another highlite for Boston would come in the 5th inning as rookie, Aqil Sajjad would make his first ever defensive stop off the bat of Tosha Bush. Boston would 12 run the Tigers in the 4th inning. For only the 4th time in team history, the Renegades had invoked a 12 run rule on an opponent. Only 13 times in team history, the Renegades had scored 6 or more runs in a game. Two of those innings happened in this very game. After the game, Tyler captain, Larry Reed would be heard saying…”that was a great defense Boston had”. Boston would call it a day and prepare for its last game on Friday.

The Colorado Storm had played some inspired ball through the tournament but wereupset by the Carolina Pride 9-8 which kept Carolina alive and sent the Storm into the 9-12 bracket. This game had a different feel to it as both Rocky Zamora and Steve Lyles were in street clothes on the bench. It did not matter to Boston, this game meant something as the Storm had beaten them 4 times in a row dating back to 2007. Despite a different line-up for Colorado, they kept the game very close. Through the first four innings the score was never more than 2 runs apart. The Storm got their offense from Ethan Johnston who had 2 runs in three trips to this point. For Boston, Shayne Cantan was struggling (for just the 2nd game all year) but his teammates Larry Haile (3 runs), Dino Vasile and JJ Ward (2 runs a piece) accounted for a 7-5 lead for Boston. Not only was Colorado banged up…but they had to help a limping Demtris Morrow off the field at one point in the game. The game opened up in the bottom of the 5th as Vasile scored on a grounder up the first base side, Quintanilla scored on a line drive down the first base line, Justen Cantan scored on a line drive down the 3rd baseline, Shayne Cantan scored on a bomb into left field and Larry Haile scored his 4th run of the game on his 4th hard hit line drive. This gaveBoston a 12-5 lead. Larry Haile would have his 4th 4 run game of his career and this one came after a discussion with Coach Weissman who found a flaw in his swing that Haile was able to correct. Keeping in mind that the Storm came back down 5 in the last inning to come from behind and beat Boston, the Renegades took things seriously and inserted Sengil Inkiala into the defense to help preserve the lead. This time Boston would prevail and beat the Storm for just the 2nd time in this rivalry. Ethan Johnston and Justen Cantan would each make 7 stops on defense for their teams while playing the same position (left shorty). Johnston would go on to be named the defensive MVP of the World Series. Cantan would go on to lead the Renegades in stops for the 2010 season and he would become just the 3rd player in team history to have at least 7 stops in a game.
