Assistive Technology Camp for Blind & Visually Impaired Youth

The Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) is sponsoring a weekend camp in New Hampshire for legally blind youth between the ages of 12-16.

ABC is a not for profit, all volunteer, organization that has been providing programs and services for the blind and visually impaired community for the past 18 years.� This program is an outgrowth of our experience in operating camps for blind children.��Participants will spend the weekend experiencing �hands-on technology demonstrations and group activities! Bring your own iPhone and/or iPad.� If you do not own one, devices will be available on loan with apps fully loaded. The Assistive Technology trainers, Diana Petschauer and Stephen Yerardi will engage the students with activities to teach:

  • Built-In Accessibility features to access everything from your phone or tablet (text to speech, magnification, high contrast, display accommodations, speech to text)
  • Access to Digital Books and Handouts for school
  • Support for Literacy, Math and Executive Function
  • Instant OCR and text to speech for documents on the go such as Menus, grocery items, signs, etc.
  • Money, color and product identification
  • Navigation support
  • Voice Control devices (Siri versus Alexa versus Google)
  • The latest innovative assistive technologies being developed and utilized currently!

For recreation, an indoor pool for swimming and adaptive games will be available. This will be a weekend of learning and fun activities and a chance to meet new friends.� The program will take place the weekend of May 4/6, 2018.� We will pick up attendees in Boston.� If you are a teacher of the visually impaired or an orientation and mobility instructor, please inform your students' parents or guardian about this opportunity.

We will provide registration materials at that time.� This opportunity is being offered at no charge to participants.� The registration deadline is April 15, 2018.� Please register early to ensure availability.

Youth Winter Weekend

The Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) is sponsoring a weekend in New Hampshire for legally blind youth between the ages of 12-16.� ABC is a not for profit, all volunteer, organization that has been providing programs and services for the blind and visually impaired community for the past 18 years.� This program is an outgrowth of our experience in operating a camp for blind children.��Participants will spend the weekend at a ski lodge where they will have the chance to experience the New Hampshire White Mountain region.

Activities will include tubing, skiing, snowshoeing, and an indoor pool for swimming. This will be a weekend of fun activities and a chance to meet new friends.� The program will take place the weekend of February 9-11, 2018.� We will pick up attendees in Boston and Braintree.� If you are a teacher of the visually impaired or an orientation and mobility instructor, please inform your students' parents or guardian about this opportunity.

Free Weekend Camp

The Association of Blind Citizens (ABC) is sponsoring�a weekend in New Hampshire for legally blind youth between the ages of 12-16.

ABC is a not for profit, all volunteer, organization that has been providing programs and services for the blind and visually impaired community for the past 17 years.

This program is an outgrowth of our experience in operating a camp for blind children for the past seven years. Participants will spend the weekend at a log cabin at Camp Wannakee where they will have the chance to experience the New Hampshire lakes region.� Off site activities will include bowling, mini golf, bumper cars, a boat ride.� On site we plan to enjoy evening camp fires, wall climbing, short hikes and much more.� This will be a weekend of fun activities and a chance to meet new friends.

The Association of Blind Citizens offers a variety of camps for blind and visually impaired children and a vacation opportunity for blind and visually impaired adults. The camp is located in New Durham, New Hampshire. Deadlines are coming soon.

Pre-Employment Transition Services Training

Camp Pride is a summer camp for youth between the ages of 14 through 21 who are still in high school and are blind or visually impaired. The camp is located in rural New Durham, New Hampshire.

ABC�s Camp Pride is a place where those who are blind or visually impaired can participate in an accessible educational curriculum that will help prepare them for the world of work through exploration of career options and workplace skill development. Participants will also improve social skills while taking part in recreational and leisure activities. Camp Pride is a place where youth gain confidence while working together with their peers and being mentored by successful blind adults. Most of all it is a place where youth discover endless possibilities. In addition, traditional camp activities offered during the evening provide fun, while teaching independence and increasing confidence, the building blocks for personal success.

ABC s Camp Pride will be held from Sunday, August 6 to Saturday, August 12, 2017. Please contact your vocational rehabilitation counselor and ask for this training opportunity to be funded by your state agency. Ground transportation is available from Manchester, New Hampshire airport, as needed. Air Transportation assistance may be available from your vocational agency. The camp is equipped with WiFi, access to a private lake for water activities, additional traditional camp activities and evening programs will be available.

Camp Pride Pre-Employment Transition Services Application

Junior Camp

Camp Pride is a summer camp for children between the ages of 10 to 16 who are blind or visually impaired. The camp is located in rural New Durham, New Hampshire.

ABC�s Camp Pride is a place where those who are blind or visually impaired can participate in an accessible camp environment that will give them access to many activities that may not be available in their community. Participants will improve social and independent living skills and build confidence while participating in recreational and leisure activities. Camp Pride is a place where children gain confidence while working together with their peers and being mentored by successful blind adults. Most of all it is a place where children discover endless possibilities. Traditional camp activities such as swimming, horseback riding, fishing, arts and crafts, music, field games, a talent show and much more.

ABC's Camp Pride will be held from Sunday, August 6 to Saturday, August 12, 2017. Please contact your state agency and ask for this camping opportunity to be sponsored. The cost of this week long experience is $500.00. Full and partial scholarships are available and purchase orders are accepted. Camp Pride Junior Camp Application

Adult Vacation camp

Camp Pride is a summer camp for adults between the ages of 22 through 65 who are blind or visually impaired. The camp is located in rural New Durham, New Hampshire.

ABC�s Camp Pride is a place where those who are blind or visually impaired can participate in an accessible vacation setting that will give them access to many activities that may not be available in their community. Participants will enjoy recreational, social and leisure activities. Camp Pride is a place where old friendships are renewed and new friendships are forged. Traditional camp activities such as swimming, Horseback riding, fishing, arts and crafts, music, field games, talent show, free time, excursions to the surrounding community are included. Should you simply wish to relax by the lake or take leisurely walks in the woods, there is something here for everyone.

ABC's Adult Vacation camp will be held from Sunday, August 6 to Saturday, August 12, 2017. The cost of this week long experience is $500.00. This price includes meals, snacks, activities, lodging, round-trip bus transportation from Boston, transportation to off site activities and much more. ABC is offering a $200.00 scholarship to the first 20 applicants that apply for this vacation opportunity.
