Our very own Tim Syphers hosts the Renegade Report Podcast

Our 8th installment of the Renegade report features Tim Syphers talking with Joe Quintanilla.  “Q” is the longest tenured player on the team as he is just one of two active players still playing from the original 2002 World Series team.  As one of the guys who was there when the team first started, he has seen a whirlwind of change through the years.  He has gone from the best hitter on the team to a savvy veteran who was called on two deliver two of the biggest runs in team history during our march to the title game in 2016.  To date, Joe Quintanilla is the team leader in games played (181 of the 205 total), at0 bats (575) and strike outs (143).  He ranks 2nd in team history with 170 runs scored and at the time of this post is 10th all time in defensive stops with 71 and 13th in history with a .290 batting average.

Episode 5 – Shayne Cantan – The man we call Hawaiian Punch owns the single season record for most runs, at-bats and batting average when he scored 50 runs and hit .617 in the 2010 season.  He is just one of 2 players to top .600 in a season for the Renegades in a season.

Our sixth installment of the Renegade report features Tim Syphers talking with Melissa Hoyt, Our only active female player on our roster at the moment. Melissa joined the squad in the 2007 season and was the 2nd woman to ever play in a game in Renegade history.  She has played with every woman Renegade in team history (we have had 5 who have played in games).  Melissa has multiple health issues that limits her ability to log a lot of playing time but she finds great joy in being part of the team and watching the team grow.  She works hard to educate herself about the game.  In 2001, she made her first world Series after competing for years locally on the East Coast.  In 2015, she set career highs in games played (6) and she ranks 22nd all-time in games played for the Renegades at 20.

Our fifth installment of the Renegade report features Tim Syphers talking with Shayne Cantan who many know as Hawaiian Punch around the league.  Shayne joined the Renegades in the 2009 season after moving to Boston from Hawaii.  We lucked out when we found him in the oddest of ways (listen to the podcast to hear how he found beep baseball).  Shayne played a ton of sports in High school including High School Football.  He played football as a blind person against all sighted opponents.  He never lacked heart…but his team never won a game in the 4 years he played.  The most winning team he had ever been a part of was the Boston Renegades.  Shayne comes from a giant family and has two other brothers who have the same eye disease as he does.  He is part of the only brother combination to play on the Renegades as he and his brother Justen played together from 2009-2011.  Shayne holds the Renegade record for most runs scored and highest batting average in a season with 50 runs and a  .617 batting average in 2010.

Our fourth installment of the Renegade report features Tim Syphers talking with Jason “Ace” Lenicheck a long time coach on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game for the Renegades.  Ace started with the Renegades in the 2004 season and has been one of the masterminds in helping improve the play on the field and the coaching off it.  Ace started primarily as a hitting coach but over the years has morphed into a defensive caller as well as a hitting coach.  When he joined the Renegades he was the most experienced coach the team had and has helped the coaching staff grow over the years.  He may not be a household name in the NBBA as he has attended two world series (2014-2015) but he has been with the sport for what will be his 13th season in 2016!

In the first 3 episodes Tim has explored the game with

Episode 1 – Guy Zuccarello, a former defensive MVP of the World Series and one of the leaders of the Renegades

Episode 2 – Larry Haile, the All-time Renegade leader in runs scored and one of the most amazing visually impaired people you will ever meet

Our third installment of the Renegade report features Tim Syphers talks to Christian Thaxton, the first ever Renegade to make a World Series All-Star team as a rookie and the owner of the Renegade World Series record of highest batting average (.719).  Christian joined the Renegades in June of 2015 while he found out about the game while staying at the Carroll Center for the Blind.  As a former Junior College Baseball player, he never thought he would play competitive team sports again…till a day when he spoke to one of our players, Joe Quintanilla.  The rest is Renegade history.  Listen along as “Thax” tells us about his journey and talks to us about how competitive this sport is.

If you like this one….Tim also has spent time talking to two other teammates in Episodes one and two.  Episode one was with Guy Zuccarello, a former defensive MVP of the World Series and one of the leaders of the Renegades.  Episode two is with Larry Haile, the All-time Renegade leader in runs scored and one of the most amazing visually impaired people you will ever meet.

Our own, Tim Syphers is the host of theRenegade report

We would like to introduce the brand new Renegade Report podcast which has been started by Boston Renegade, Tim Syphers.  The focus of the report will be on players and coaches and their journeys toward becoming Renegades and why it is so important to them. The common goal on the field is surpassed only by the relationships formed off of it, and this is something we would like to portray through these episodes.

To get the podcast started, we have created an account on soundcloud and you can find the podcast here

Our first guess on the Renegade report is long-time  Renegade Guy Zuccarello.

Please follow Tim and his Journey to tell our stories!

One cool thing about the Boston Renegades and beep baseball is there are so many stories to tell.  Stories that go beyond the games and into the people.  How did these players lose their sight? What struggles did they encounter? How did they overcome them?  Who are the volunteers and what drives them? How do all of these strangers come together to form one of the best teams in the league.  The stories are endless, sad, heart warming and fun.  We hope you will join Tim and listen along with us.

Lastly, Its important to note that not only is Tim talking beepball but we are providing him an opportunity to pursue his passion which is Radio.  He has found a way to help his team and his own career at the same time.  We hope this pays dividends and helps you learn about our program but also helps Tim grow his expertise to grow his career.  We have done this for others as well.  Patrick Marquis wanted to learn how to use wordpress, and he did it by helping us redesign our web site a few years back.  Bill Lee wanted to expand his photography skills, and we were able to get him a free rental lense to take pictures of us playing ball.  If you have a passion you want to pursue whether its journalism, fundraising, project management, design, Public relations…We have plenty of opportunities…just ask us at bostonrenegades@gmail.com and maybe we can partner with you!
